RE4 - The most intense and engaging Resident Evil game. OG RE2 - My favorite story and setting in the entire series and the scenarios were actually well done and added replay value. RE3 - Best gameplay of the originals, but the premise is simple and Nemesis and Raccoon City are pretty much what make the game memorable. Resident Evil 6 is an "everything but the kitchen sink" sequel. Capcom packed it to the gills with multiple campaigns, modes and several features. This is also the most polarizing RE entry since it's basically an action game. Purists will hate it, but more forgiving fans should enjoy the ride. It really depends on you opinion about the series as a whole. If you only play Resident Evil for the horror yes, absolutely you can skip it since it is the least scary out of the series in my opinion. Leon's campaign is the closest thing to horror in RE6, so maybe just play his story. RE7 is more horror focused and RE8 is the most versatile game in the franchise. The first person camera does harm the combat, but fortunately Village's 3rd person DLC solves that. People may be factoring in the story when suggesting the best Resident Evil to start with.
